Dance Captain / Assistant Choreographer

Born in Australia, Nicholas Cunningham trained at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. After completing an advanced diploma of performing arts, he was awarded the Marten Bequest Traveling Scholarship for Dance 2005/2006. He then began his career with a bold move to Paris in 2005, to dance at the renowned Bal du Moulin Rouge. In 2006 Nicholas made his debut on West End in Broadway’s Tony Award winning show Movin’ Out directed and choreographed by Twyla Tharp. Most recently Nicholas joined Matthew Bourne’s company New Adventures in 2006, and started an international tour of Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake, which closed this year after performing in seven different countries worldwide. While performing professionally Nicholas has appeared in television adverts such as McCains airing on ITV and Channel 4, as well as an ad campaign for Orangina. He has assisted in two screen productions; the feature film The Boat That Rocked directed by Richard Curtis, and an ad campaign for YSL, in which he also appeared. He appeared on the cover of Dancetrain magazine, Australia 2004, and featured in Dance Australia. Nicholas has most recently been in rehearsals for the feature film Nine, directed by Rob Marshall, which is due to be released in October 2009. Nicholas is forever grateful for the opportunities with this production of La Cage aux Folles, and wants to say thank you to everyone involved. Bonne chance tout le monde.
